President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi held a meeting with Terje Pilskog, Norway’s Scatec CEO, and Lei Zhang, the Chairman of the Chinese Envision Energy, to discuss expanding renewable energy investments and green hydrogen collaboration, according to a presidential statement.
The President highlighted that strengthening partnerships with leading international companies is essential to meet the growing domestic and global demand for renewable energy generation. This strategy aims to secure and enhance energy supply chains while transitioning toward a sustainable green economy.
Discussions focused on Egypt’s strategic goal to become a regional hub for clean energy by attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) into the renewables sector. El-Sisi emphasized the state’s commitment to localizing technology and increasing local content in major energy projects. He noted that Egypt possesses competitive advantages and a strategic location that supports the export of low-carbon products.
Officials from both companies confirmed their commitment to enhancing investments in the Egyptian market, citing an improving business environment and effective cooperation from relevant authorities. The executives expressed appreciation for the support provided by the Egyptian state in renewable energy projects and wind turbine manufacturing. They further noted their intent to expand partnerships in Egypt to support the transition toward a green economy.
Additionally, the meeting reviewed Scatec’s investment plans in energy infrastructure, particularly in solar energy, and electricity storage systems to ensure stable, clean power and wind power generation. President El-Sisi affirmed that Egypt prioritizes localizing technology and increasing local content in mega projects, alongside strengthening partnerships with global leaders to meet rising domestic and international demand for renewable energy and to secure supply chains.
Scatec has expanded its presence in Egypt’s clean energy sector through a series of solar and wind power investments. The company’s portfolio includes a significant contribution to the Benban Solar Park. Additionally, Scatec recently launched the Obelisk project in Nagaa Hammadi to further its exploration and production (E&P) of renewable resources.
Envision Energy is a renewable energy equipment manufacturing company. It operates across three primary sectors: smart wind turbines, energy storage, and green hydrogen solutions. The company is supplying turbines for ACWA Power’s 1.1 GW Gulf of Suez wind farm and partnering on a green ammonia facility in Suez, advancing Egypt’s renewable and hydrogen ambitions.
