The Egyptian Linear Alkyl Benzene Company (ELAB) has posted a record production of 141,000 tons of linear alkyl benzene (LAB) in 2025, its highest level since the plant began operations in 2008, while maintaining top standards of safety, occupational health, and environmental protection, Chairman Ayman Elgarem said during the company’s general assembly.
LAB is the company’s main product and serves as the primary raw material for the manufacture of industrial detergents, according to Elgarem, who added that the company is working to increase its production.
The meeting reviewed the company’s fiscal year (FY) 2025 results and was attended by Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, and senior executives from the petroleum and petrochemical sector
During the meeting, Badawi said ELAB represents a distinguished model among companies in the petroleum sector, noting that it produces high-value products used in a wide range of industries. These products generate economic returns through exports to global markets while also meeting the growing demand in the local market.
The minister also praised the company’s five-year vision, emphasizing the importance of developing clear implementation plans for upcoming projects and exploring the possibility of expanding into new products to support the company’s ambitious growth plans.
According to Elgarem, ELAB ‘s marketing policy enables it to cover local market demand as well as export the surplus to global markets, including several countries in Western Europe, Africa, and Asia. Moreover, it succeeded in increasing the production capacity to 141% of the plant’s design capacity, in alignment with a number of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources’ modernisation pillars.
He added that coordination was made with the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) to increase the quantities of kerosene for the company, which allowed for the conversion of about 80% of the kerosene used as feedstock into jet fuel
ELAB is one of the Egyptian petroleum sector companies. Established in 2003, the company produces LAB as its main product, and Heavy Alkyl Benzene (HAB) as a by-product.
