Egypt has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with UAE-based Alcazar Energy for a new 407MW wind farm at Zafarana, on the country’s Red Sea. It adds further momentum to Cairo’s plans to more than triple installed renewable energy capacity by the end of the decade (MEES, 24 July).
The agreement was signed between the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) and Alcazar Energy, under which EETC will purchase electricity generated by the project through a long-term offtake agreement. The $420mn wind farm is scheduled to start commercial operations in 2028. Alcazar said the project “underscores our long-term commitment to Egypt’s clean energy ambitions” and reflects confidence in the country’s investment environment. (CONTINUED – 168 WORDS)
