Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, met with senior officials and CEOs of leading international energy companies (IOCs) on the sidelines of the ADIPEC Exhibition and Conference 2025 in Abu Dhabi, UAE, to discuss expanding cooperation and accelerating energy projects in Egypt.
During his meeting with Olivier Le Peuch, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SLB, the two sides discussed preparatory steps for implementing the advanced Ocean Bottom Node (OBN) seismic survey project in the East Mediterranean, covering 95,000 square kilometers. This project, carried out by SLB in cooperation with Viridien, aims to open new horizons for discovering natural gas resources. They also reviewed the growing role of the Egypt Upstream Gateway (EUG) as a digital investment platform.
In a separate meeting with Murray Auchincloss, CEO of bp, Badawi appreciated the company’s longstanding partnership, describing BP as a key strategic partner.

Both sides reviewed positive results from increased gas production at the Raven field in the Mediterranean Sea, stressing the importance of accelerating the development of discoveries and enhancing existing fields. Badawi underlined the need to maximize the use of advanced seismic data and translate findings into new drilling programs to expand production.
The Minister also held meetings focused on technology and services. With Jeff Miller, CEO of Halliburton, discussions centered on the company’s latest technologies in drilling, hydrocarbon production, and enhanced oil and gas recovery, to apply them in Egypt to boost production, enhance efficiency, and reduce operational costs.

Separately, with Lorenzo Simonelli, CEO of Baker Hughes, they followed up on joint studies between Baker Hughes and the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) on natural gas storage projects.

Additionally, Badawi met with a delegation from Huawei, with whom they agreed to strengthen cooperation in digital transformation across Egypt’s petroleum sector, encompassing the use of artificial intelligence, digital field management systems, and solar energy solutions for petroleum facilities.

At the conclusion of his meetings, Minister Badawi invited all global energy leaders to participate in the upcoming Egypt International Energy Conference (EGYPES 2026), to be held next year in Cairo.
