Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, stated that Egypt is working on strengthening its status as a regional energy hub, maximizing the use of its robust infrastructure, and expanding cooperation to provide energy supplies for the entire region. The Minister made his remarks during a ministerial session at the ADIPEC Exhibition and Conference 2025.
Badawi highlighted the cooperation with Cyprus to enable the export of Cypriot gas through Egypt’s facilities. In October, Egypt and Cyprus sealed a set of landmark commercial agreements that pave the way for the development of the Cronos gas field in Cyprus’s Block 6, marking a decisive step toward the project’s Final Investment Decision (FID).
He also pointed to the cooperation with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Arcius Energy, which has chosen Egypt as a key location for its regional operations. This follows the August deal between the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) and ARCIUS Energy to invest about $109 million in the North Damietta offshore area of the Mediterranean Sea.
The Minister outlined the key priorities of Egypt’s energy sector, including accelerating oil and gas exploration and production (E&P) and achieving a balanced energy mix between traditional and renewable sources. A parallel priority is channeling gas resources into value-added petrochemical and refining industries.
Additionally, Badawi emphasized the importance of the mining sector as a cornerstone for securing critical minerals. He noted that Egypt prioritizes not only mineral extraction but also establishing downstream industries to maximize the sector’s economic value.
The session was attended by Suhail Al Mazrouei, UAE Energy Minister and Infrastructure, and Saad Al Kaabi, Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs.
On the sidelines of the event, Minister Badawi toured the Egyptian pavilion at ADIPEC 2025, which showcased national oil, gas, and service companies, including Engineering for the Petroleum and Process Industries (Enppi) and Petroleum Projects and Technical Consultations Company (PETROJET). He also visited the ExxonMobil and SLB exhibits, where he reviewed the latest global technologies in exploration, drilling, and digital energy solutions.
