Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, led an inspection tour of the remote monitoring and control system (SCADA System) used to oversee the liquified petroleum gas (LPG) distribution at Petroleum Gas Company (Petrogas), a leading distributor of natural gas in Egypt.
This visit follows the completion of the implementation phases of the system across all Petrogas sites nationwide.
During the tour, Badawi highlighted the critical importance of implementing the SCADA system in the LPG sector, which aligns with the Ministry’s strategy for digital transformation and strengthening monitoring systems for petroleum products. He also underscored the necessity of coordinating with relevant entities to guarantee that LPG cylinders reach consumers at their approved standard weights, ensuring an integrated system for storage, transport, and distribution.
Both the Ministry and the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) are fully committed to providing all necessary support with the aim of ensuring the sustainable development of the LPG distribution system, guaranteeing its safe, efficient, and reliable delivery to citizens, according to Badawi
Mohamed Ibrahim Farhat, Petrogas’ Chairman, highlighted that the SCADA project provides real-time tracking of LPG stock across all Petrogas locations nationwide, directly linking this data to the Petroleum Products Movement Monitoring Center at EGPC. He further noted that the SCADA system leverages the latest digital transformation technologies to monitor distributed quantities and streamline workflows across the sector.
Farhat further unveiled the company’s digital transformation roadmap for the LPG system, extending through 2028. This ambitious plan includes key complementary projects such as the Tank Gauging System for precise LPG stock measurement in storage tanks, a Fleet Monitoring and Management System for tanker trucks, and a robust Data Management System for LPG cylinder filling equipment.
