UAE Dana Gas has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Syrian Petroleum Company (SPC) for the redevelopment and expansion of several natural gas fields across central Syria, including Abu Rabah gas field, one of the largest gas discoveries in Syria.
“This agreement marks an important first step in evaluating opportunities to redevelop Syria’s gas infrastructure and unlock the potential that exists within its gas sector. The fields identified under this MoU could make a real difference to domestic gas production, strengthening Syria’s energy security and supporting local communities,” said Richard Hall, CEO of Dana Gas
The MoU stipulates that Dana Gas conducts a comprehensive technical assessment of the identified fields. It would then propose a development plan aimed at increasing total gas production if the evaluation is successful and both parties reach a final agreement.
Dana Gas is playing an important role in the rapidly growing natural gas sector of the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia (MENASA) region. It has exploration and production assets in Egypt, Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) and UAE, with 2P reserves exceeding one billion barrels of oil equivalent (bboe) and average production of 55,000 boe/d in 2024.
During the nine months ending September 30, 2025, the company added 21.3 billion cubic feet (bcf) of proved and probable gas reserves in Egypt. It has also increased Iraq’s Khor Mor’s total capacity to 750 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscf/d) from the completion of KM250 gas expansion project ahead of schedule.
