Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, inaugurated the integrated development project for the village of Al Tonab Village in Aswan Governorate, emphasising the role of the petroleum sector in supporting community development initiatives.
The initiative aims to transform Al Tonab Village into a self-sufficient village by providing its dwellers with 30 new houses equipped with biogas production units to recycle animal waste as well as solar energy production units, thus securing income for them. It will also comprise helping families to manage small-scale livestock farming units.
This initiative, launched in December, was implemented by the New Valley Company for Mineral Resources and Oil Clay (Wadico) in cooperation with Ganoub El Wadi Petroleum Holding Company’s (Ganope) and the Orman Association..
This is not the only social responsibility initiative spearheaded by the petroleum sector’s companies. In February 2025, the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) hosted a ceremony to sign nine protocols for establishing social responsibility projects for ten of its affiliated companies. The companies were reported to implement these projects in cooperation with several civil society institutions, including Hayah Karima (Decent Life) Foundation, Misr El Kheir Foundation, Orman Association, Mervat Sultan Foundation, and El Fayrouz Association in North Sinai and the World Youth Organisation in Ras Ghareb.
