Egyptian Company for Mineral Resources (ECMR) has signed a framework agreement for phosphate ore processing projects with Ferchem Masr Fertilizers and Chemicals, one of Polyserve Group companies. The deal entails building two plants: One for producing phosphate fertilizers while the other is for upgrading low-grade phosphate ore to maximize its economic value.
This aligns with the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources’ strategy to develop and expand the mining sector to enhance the added value of mineral resources.
ECMR targets increasing production to a total of 593,000 tons of various ores, especially phosphate, along with other minerals like quartz and talc in addition to expanding the scope of targeted ores at the Wadi Al-Shaghab site to achieve higher production rates and start working on tin ore for the first time, according to the company’s chairman, Amr Hassan.
Established in 2003, ECMR serves as the economic arm of the Mineral Resources and Mining Industries Authority.
