EGPC+to+Launch+Multi-client+Seismic+Survey+in+Western+Desert

The Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) has awarded a new multi‑client seismic survey in the Western Desert to a specialized firm, with work set to begin shortly. The project, announced at EGPC’s SCOUT exploration forum, aims to update studies in under‑explored areas and bolster investment prospects in Egypt’s petroleum sector.

Ahmed Kamal, EGPC’s Deputy CEO for Exploration, announced the agreement in his opening remarks at EGPC’s periodic SCOUT exploration forum. He noted that the survey will cover areas not subjected to recent surveys, supporting the evaluation of exploration prospects and efforts to attract new investment. “This survey raises our ambitions to deliver stronger outcomes, and it reminds us that we must continually push for higher results to unlock the full value of Egypt’s petroleum resources,” Kamal said.

The forum brought together exploration and investment officials, technical experts and representatives of international and joint-venture companies operating in Egypt to discuss available investment opportunities, including exploration prospects, discovered fields and mature assets.

The forum was coordinated by EGPC with support from Western Desert Petroleum Company (WEPCO) and GEOEnergy, a leading Energy technology enterprise offering Geoscience and Engineering Solutions.

It included a presentation from WEPCO about the Badr-1 oilfield, a case study in developing mature fields. The field’s exploration program involved reassessing existing data and applying modern technologies to identify additional opportunities despite geological and operational challenges.

The work identified prospects in the Abu Roash, Bahariya, and Kharita formations, as well as unconventional reservoirs. Several exploration wells were drilled successfully, including BED 10-2X.

The results indicate that the field retains reserves that could support higher production, with integration between exploration and operations teams playing a key role in the development, according to EGPC.

Other presentations involved EGPC reviewing developments in petroleum agreements, the growing potential of Egypt’s exploration areas, and the results of recent exploration programs.

GEOEnergy also discussed global markets, modern exploration technologies, and production solutions.

In addition, Egypt Upstream Gateway (EUG) presented available petroleum investment opportunities, including the development of existing discoveries in the Mediterranean and mature fields in the Nile Delta and Western Desert.
