Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, held a meeting with representatives from international technology providers and service companies operating in Egypt, including SLB, Baker Hughes, Weatherford, National Energy Services Reunited Corporation (NESR), and Expro. The meeting discussed the executive steps for establishing an integrated mechanism to develop drilling technology and field Development.
This initiative is part of the Ministry’s five-year plan to increase domestic production of crude oil and natural gas, according to a statement by the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR).
During the meeting, Badawi stated that the Ministry has made significant strides in preparing new contractual and technical models. These models are designed with the flexibility required to accommodate modern technologies currently seeing expanded use, such as horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing.
The Minister ordered an immediate study of producing fields to define their technological needs, stressing the expansion of horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing. He emphasized that these solutions depend on continuously updated geological data to maximize production.
For their part, representatives of the international companies confirmed that focusing on hydraulic fracturing and horizontal drilling technologies, alongside the provision of accurate geological data, represents a qualitative leap in the field development system. They expressed readiness to deliver advanced technology packages proven globally to boost well productivity and enhance project economics.
