Egypt’s Fuel Automatic Pricing Committee (FAPC) has decided to keep domestic petroleum product prices unchanged for the third quarter (Q3) of 2026, according to a statement on October 15.
FAPC said it took its decision after reviewing exchange rate movements and Brent crude prices during Q3 2026, compared with the previous quarter.
The committee added that the decision was also taken following reviewing domestic and international developments affecting its pricing formula, including global petroleum product prices and pricing measures implemented in previous periods.
On July 1, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly announced that the government would resume FAPC’s work in the first quarter of fiscal year 2026/2027, ending a temporary suspension of the quarterly fuel pricing mechanism.
In March 2026, FAPC made one of its sharpest fuel price adjustments in years. It cited “exceptional conditions” in global energy markets following the outbreak of the U.S.–Iran war.
The increases ranged from 14% to 30% across different petroleum products. They were unusual because they exceeded the committee’s normal quarterly adjustment cap of ±10%. The hikes reflected a surge in Brent crude prices above $115 per barrel and shipping disruptions through the Strait of Hormuz.
Prices later eased following the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the US and Iran in June. However, renewed confrontations pushed Brent crude prices sharply higher over the past two months.
Brent crude rose from around $91 per barrel in August to an average of $114 in September. Prices peaked above $126 in early October before easing to around $104–106 this week amid talks on easing sanctions. On October 15, Brent crude traded at around $104.5–105.8 per barrel.
Against this backdrop, several regional countries have raised domestic fuel prices in recent weeks to reflect higher global market costs.
In the UAE, the Fuel Price Committee raised gasoline and diesel prices for October 2026 for the third consecutive month under the country’s market-linked monthly pricing mechanism. Super 98 gasoline rose by 15.8% to AED 4.40 per litre, while diesel prices increased by 11.6% to AED 4.80.
Jordan also raised gasoline and diesel prices by 50 fils per litre for October, citing higher global crude oil and petroleum product costs.
