Egypt generated a record 35.19TWh of electricity from renewable power plants in 2025, up 28% year on year, the New & Renewable Energy Authority (NREA) says. Comprehensive power generation data are not yet available, but renewables’ share likely rose above the c.12% level at which it has stood since the start of the decade. Egypt is targeting a 42% share for renewables for 2030, and is investing in large-scale additions to that end (MEES, 16 January).

Hydropower is the largest component of Egypt’s renewables mix, and generation increased by 9% to 17.3TWh last year. Wind rose 57% to 10.5TWh, and solar by 50% to 7.43TWh (see chart 1). (CONTINUED - 865 WORDS)
