Egypt’s efforts to arrest a sharp decline in domestic gas production will be bolstered in the coming days as Eni prepares to bring new volumes online from the Nile Delta.
The Italian major is set to add around 50-60mn cfd of gas production by the end of June following the successful drilling of the Nidoco N-2 well in the Abu Madi West concession in the shallow-water Nile Delta region (MONDAY, May 15). The addition comes at a critical moment for Egypt, where gas output fell to a decade-low 3.90bn cfd in April and remains well below the level required to satisfy domestic demand, forcing Cairo to import higher volumes of LNG (MALE, 26 June).
