Omani state upstream firm OQ Exploration and Production (OQEP) said in its first half results call this week that it plans to start exploration at Block 80 offshore the northern exclave of Musandam in 2027 (see map, MEES, 28 August).
The energy ministry awarded the block to OQEP (50%op) and Turkish Petroleum Overseas Company (TOPC: 50%) earlier this year (MEES, 26 June). Under the first four-year exploration phase, the partners signed up to acquiring 500km2 of 3D seismic, drilling two exploration and one appraisal wells before moving on to a second four-year phase.
