Petroleum Marine Services (PMS) has launched a unified offshore rig movement service covering the Red Sea and Gulf of Suez. PMS launched the service in collaboration with the UK-based ABL Group. This strategic expansion aims to reduce operating costs and support production efficiency in the region.
The announcement was made at a workshop hosted by PMS and attended by the company’s CEO, Amr Badawy, senior executives from petroleum production and drilling firms, Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) drilling officials, and ABL Group representatives.
Badawy said the unified system directly addresses the needs of production companies seeking a more efficient and flexible operating model capable of minimizing downtime and optimizing rig utilization. He noted that PMS will leverage its advanced marine fleet and ABL’s global experience to ensure rig moves are executed to the highest international safety and quality standards, supported by a central operations room in the Red Sea.
Stephen Craig, Director of Rig Operations at ABL Group, described the partnership as a significant step given the complexity of Egypt’s marine environment. He highlighted that ABL’s track record, spanning more than 1,400 rig movements worldwide, will support PMS in knowledge transfer and the application of global best practices.
During the workshop, PMS and ABL presented a comprehensive overview of the new system, which is designed to lower operational costs and support stable, sustainable production rates. The integrated system combines several critical elements, including site surveys and technical assessments, operating-condition analysis and rapid-response planning, and marine support and weather-impact mitigation.
The backbone of this service is PMS’s fleet, which includes dynamic and non-dynamic vessels and more than four decades of marine experience. While ABL’s expertise enhances the system, covering 77% of jack-up rigs worldwide.
PMS is one of Egypt’s key offshore and marine services companies, providing marine construction, offshore support, and subsea services to the oil and natural gas sector. With a versatile fleet of support vessels and tugboats, the company plays a central role in marine logistics and operational support across the Red Sea, Gulf of Suez, and Mediterranean.
