This cooperation involves an MoU – Memorandum of Understanding – with the aim of acquiring additional knowledge on seabed minerals.
In February of this year, the Norwegian Offshore Directorate entered into an “MoU” – Memorandum of Understanding – with the Greenland authorities, the Greenland Institute of Natural Resources and GEUS (Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland) for collaboration in acquiring additional knowledge regarding seabed minerals.
A key part of this cooperative effort is an application to the Nordic Council of Ministers to secure funding for the project “Knowledge Centre for Responsible Sourcing of Deep-sea Minerals in the Arctic Region”.
The project aims to build up a joint knowledge base in the three countries as regards aspects associated with mineral activity on the seabed. The intention is to accomplish this through joint working meetings/discussions. Communication with various stakeholders and opinion-makers is an important part of this effort.
We expect to receive a response regarding potential funding from the Nordic Council of Ministers sometime before this summer.
