Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, visited Aqaba Port in Jordan for the commissioning trials of the Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) Energos Force, which is set to receive imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipments, regasify them, and inject the gas into the Arab Gas Pipeline. He was accompanied by Saleh El-Kharabsheh, Jordanian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources.
The unit’s arrival at Aqaba port on Friday was a practical implementation of the cooperation agreement signed between the two countries in 2024 to leverage Egypt’s infrastructure, including FSRUs, to supply gas to Jordan until the end of 2026.
Minister Badawi emphasized the strong historical ties between Egypt and Jordan. He highlighted the importance of joint cooperation in the natural gas sector.
Badawi added that the Energos Force FSRU will have a positive impact on enhancing gas supply security for a variety of sectors in both Egypt and Jordan. He noted that the vessel has a regasification capacity of around 750 million cubic feet per day (mcf/d), with quantities to be determined based on the actual needs of both countries.
Minister El-Kharabsheh reiterated the same message, adding that there is great and ongoing cooperation with Egypt across various gas activities in Jordan.
During the visit, both ministers reviewed the unit operating capabilities, gas compressor station in Aqaba, and the main control center of the Arab Gas Pipeline.
The working team showcased the latest technologies and software used in managing natural gas networks to ensure operational efficiency and secure supply, in line with the highest global safety standards in the oil and gas industry. The team explained that continuous coordination and cooperation is taking place with the main control center of the national gas grid, the National Advanced Transmission and Automation Centre, (NATA), affiliated with Egyptian Natural Gas Company (GASCO) to ensure top-tier performance and output.
