The Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) held a workshop to review the actual results of the trial run for a project at the Alexandria National Refining and Petrochemicals Company (ANRPC). This project involved changing the main boiler’s fuel system. During the trial, the boiler was operated using hydrogen surplus instead of natural gas. Approximately 12,000 tons of hydrogen-rich gases were utilized as a substitute for 20,000 tons of natural gas. This pioneering initiative in the petroleum sector yielded significant economic savings and environmental benefits
During the workshop and field trip, the successful model was presented as a way to adopt innovative solutions aligning with the strategies of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, as well as EGPC’s efforts to enhance environmental sustainability, improve energy efficiency, and work towards using clean energy. These solutions support the national economy, improve energy efficiency, and maintain environmental sustainability.
The project’s trial run commenced in March 2025 on ANRPC’s main boiler, which was implemented by Mitsubishi, the license holder.
This project is considered an important step in enhancing energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions. It is expected to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 59,000 tons annually, which represents about 35% of the company’s total carbon emissions.
