The Egyptian oil and gas sector has successfully added new wells to the gas production map in both the Mediterranean Sea and the Western Desert.
In the Mediterranean, the second well in the West El-Burullus (WEB) offshore field was placed on the production map, increasing the field’s output from about 25 to 37 million cubic feet per day (mmcf/d). The project is being developed and produced through a local joint‑venture vehicle (PetroWeb) with Cheiron as the operator/lead developer.
Production is planned to grow over 70 mmcf/d of natural gas following the connection of the third well in the coming days. Meanwhile, drilling of the fourth well has been completed with promising results, and preparations are underway to conduct its evaluative tests.
The field development plan also includes a program to drill two additional wells on the ‘Papyrus’ platform, which is linked to the WEB’ platform. This initiative aims to maximize the utilization of resources within the concession area and accelerate the pace of production.”
In a related context, BAPETCO is moving forward with its development plan for its concession areas in the Western Desert. The company has successfully drilled well BED 15-35, as part of the ongoing development of the BED 15-31 discovery.
Production tests have shown rates ranging between 10 mmcf/d and 15 mmcf/d of natural gas, in addition to 300 barrels per day (b/d) to 650 b/d of condensate. This contributes to increasing the proven reserves in the area from 15 billion cubic feet (bcf) to approximately 25 bcf of natural gas.
It is scheduled to drill four additional production wells in the Badr El Din concession area, aimed at increasing output and maximizing the utilization of discovered reserves. This supports the efforts of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources to reduce the import bill and bolster national energy security.
