The ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza signed in October 2025 is near breaking point, with repeated attacks since then resulting in the deaths of at least 738 Palestinians (according to the Hamas-run health ministry) and five IDF soldiers (official IDF figures), and little progress has been made on key terms of post-conflict transition.
The agreement called for Israel to withdraw to an initial ‘yellow line’ to be followed by further withdrawals (MEES, 17 October 2025). But this week Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that Israel has been advancing beyond this line, and has gone from controlling 53% of Gaza to 60%.
